All it Takes is Some DLC!

Below you will find a short list of the most common skin conditions clients come to DLC for help with.  With a possible combination of skincare, skin treatments, facial peels, laser and prescriptions from Dr. Liberatore, we are confident that we can give you the results you have been seeking - YOU…Only BETTER!

Acne – Acne is the most common skin condition in humans, affecting nearly 45 million Americans each year. Acne develops where there are more oil glands present, e.g. face, scalp, chest, back and neck. There are many different types of acne and each patient should be treated according to their particular case.

Aging – Aging of the skin is a result of many different factors that can be broken into two categories: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic or uncontrollable aging is chronological and genetic. Facial wrinkling, expression lines and drier, more sensitive skin may be a result of intrinsic aging. The extrinsic or more controllable factors of aging refer to exposure to the sun and/or pollutants which cause a breakdown of the skin’s structure, leading to discoloration, wrinkles, skin growths and even cancer. Many skin scientists believe the extrinsic factors are to blame for 90% of the visible signs of aging. When attempting to correct signs of aging, it is important to use products that not only treat, but also prevent future damage from occurring.

Hyperpigmentation (skin discoloration) – Hyperpigmentationis the darkening of an area of skin. Causes of hyperpigmentation range from sun damage caused by UV exposure, hormone fluctuations due to pregnancy or menopause, and skin injuries such as acne scarring. Certain skin types can also be more susceptible to hyperpigmentation. It is important to consult with a skin care professional prior to using products to even skin discoloration as high percentages of strong ingredients can cause further irritation and lead to more discoloration.

Rosacea – Rosacea is a somewhat misunderstood skin condition. Currently, there is no known cure or cause. Rosacea is generally characterized by persistent redness and/or breakouts on the central areas of the face, commonly affecting the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Although there is no cure, there are many different methods of controlling rosacea symptoms. There are medical therapies that work well in conjunction with cosmeceuticals and professional treatments to control rosacea symptoms.

Dermal Filler Facts

What are injectable dermal fillers?

The majority of dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid as their main active ingredient. Hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers include Restylane and Juvederm. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin.

Injectable dermal fillers are used to fill wrinkles, lines, folds, and scars (eg. acne scars). Dermal fillers are also commonly used to give a fuller appearance to the lips.

The most common areas treated with injectable dermal fillers are the smile lines around the nose and mouth, fine lines above the mouth, frown lines between the eyes, and acne scars.

How do injectable dermal fillers work?

The skin is made of two layers, an outer layer called the epidermis and an inner layer called the dermis. The area between these two layers contains a jelly-like substance called hyaluronic acid. When we are young, our skin contains plenty of hyaluronic acid. However, when we age the hyaluronic acid between the layers of our skin diminishes. This decrease in hyaluronic acid causes the skin to lose its natural volume and fullness and creates wrinkles or folds. Dermal fillers replace the natural hyaluronic acid and add volume and firmness to the skin.

How Quickly Do You See Results After The Injectable Dermal Filler Procedure?

The results of a dermal filler procedure can be seen right away. The result do tend to improve for a few hours after treatment.

How Long do Injectable Dermal Filler treatments last?

The Results obtained with dermal fillers typically last 6 to 9 months. The results may last up to a year in some people. How long results last varies from person to person. Dermal fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance without follow up treatments.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is considered a premier wrinkle filler because it is a safe, temporary, non-animal form of hyaluronic acid gel, a naturally occurring substance that binds water to cells. Restylane is injected to fill out creases and lines. The most common areas to have done are lips, nasal labial folds, smile lines and drooping corners of the mouth. Perlane is a very pure and stabilized form of hyaluronic acid.

Before and After Treatment with Perlane

What is Perlane?

Perlane, like  Restylane, is a dermal filler and is a long-lasting gel that, once injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle, lift and add volume and help diminsh fine lines. Made of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid, it is a completely safe treatment. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane simply supplements the body’s age-depleted hyaluronic acid to plump-up the lip or to raise the skin and ‘fill in’ the particular wrinkle being treated.

The difference between Restylane and Perlane is the size of the particle (with Perlane containing more hyaluronic acid). This means that Perlane does a better job of filling deep lines while Restylane is used in fine lines or in thin skinned people.

These products last for between six and nine months, although individuals will have varied results.

Perlane is an excellent treatment for wrinkle correction, lip enhancement, smile lines and deep folds.

What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is a smooth, replenishing injectable gel filler that your doctor uses to refresh your appearance by smoothing away unwanted lines and bringing back the natural contours of your face.

The exclusive formulation of JUVÉDERM® uses hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally-occurring sugar found in your body. It combines with the water in your skin to instantly smooth lines and wrinkles, enhance lips, and restore lost volume to the cheeks and jaw-line. In fact, hyaluronic acid facial fillers can even naturally stimulate collagen production in your skin.

In the 1930s, researchers discovered a natural substance in the body that they named hyaluronic acid. They found that it played a key role in numerous areas of the body including the maintenance of skin volume and hydration. In the early 2000’s, the first hyaluronic acid facial filler received approval in Canada and the United States for the correction of facial wrinkles and folds. In 2004, JUVÉDERM® was approved for sale in Canada. Today, hyaluronic acid-based facial fillers are the fastest growing non-surgical aesthetic procedure in North America.

JUVÉDERM® is made of hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body and retains water under the skin to smooth away lines, restore lost volume and maintain skin hydration. Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. In fact, hyaluronic acid can absorb more than 1,000 times its weight – acting like a super sponge under your skin. Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body’s internal moisturizer. As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, the cells lose the ability to produce hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin begins to lose volume, often resulting in the formation of facial wrinkles and folds.

JUVÉDERM® achieves facial rejuvenation by replacing hyaluronic acid lost over time, smoothing lines, restoring lost skin volume, and keeping your skin hydrated. Best of all, the results are instantaneous, look natural, and may last up to a year with no downtime.
